Christmas Markets in Germany

Christmas markets (or Weihnachtsmärkte) are my favorite time of year in Germany. Twinkling lights, hot wine, candied almonds, and a festive feeling everywhere you go. If you ask me, this is the best time to visit Germany, especially if you are holiday fanatic like myself. While I still have many more Christmas markets to visit and discover,(every city has their own wonderful and unique market!) here are some photos to inspire you to visit Germany at Christmas time or at least to put you in the Christmas spirit!

The must try drink when visiting would be Glühwein. A hot spiced red wine, perfect for the chilly evenings. If thats not your thing, try hot chocolate with Amaretto and lots of whipped cream.

There are also wonderful markets to be seen in the smaller cities here such as where we live in Braunschweig.

I love to see how large the Christmas trees are at everywhere too! The Hannover market had a beautiful one!

And if you saw my post on Oktoberfest, you’ll know what these are. The Herzls are also everywhere at Christmas time!

I am hoping next year to do one of the largest Christmas markets in Cologne, Germany! I hope you’re feeling a bit more in the Christmas mood and inspired to visit Germany in December! Feel free t share your Christmas Market experiences with me as well! I love to see all the sparkling lights and trees 🙂
